"The Gralha and Oil-Man - an explosive encounter" 

This is the second short film of the Gralha directed once again by Tako X (Edson Takeuti), after the short film "The Egg or the Hen - an adventure of the Gralha", winning in the Festival of Movies of Curitiba 2003 (Best Film - Ruy Guerra Trophy -Popular Vote). This production, filmed in Curitiba City in March of 2004 counted with cast and technical team of the recently-inaugurated Cinematographic Photon Films. The actor that interprets the Gralha is same Eduardo Moreira of the first short-film and Oil-Man is interpreted by himself. 

This short film is about the unusual encounter among the Gralha and the Oil-Man in the Street XV, in a day of summer. This time, the director and scriptwriter Tako X decides to bet in the comedy, showing the two characters under an ironic and irreverent point of view. The end is literally explosive. 

In the opening of the film there are an animation of the Gralha, "The Dispute", that shows a new confrontation between the Gralha and the Cranial.  

"O Gralha e o Oil-Man -

"O Gralha e o Oil-Man - um encontro explosivo" é o segundo curta-metragem do Gralha dirigido mais uma vez por Tako X (Edson Takeuti), depois do curta-metragem "O Ovo ou a Galinha - uma aventura do Gralha", premiado no Festival de Cinema de Curitiba de 2003 (Melhor Filme - Troféu Ruy Guerra - Voto Popular Igualdade de bitolas Melhor Filme - Troféu Ruy Guerra - Voto Popular Igualdade de bitolas). Esta produção, filmada em Curitiba em março de 2004 contou com elenco e equipe técnica da recém-inaugurada Cooperativa Cinematográfica Photon Filmes. O ator que interpreta o Gralha é o mesmo Eduardo Moreira do primeiro curta e o Oil-Man é interpretado pelo próprio.
Este curta-metragem conta o inusitado encontro entre o Gralha e o Oil-Man na Rua XV, num dia de verão. Desta vez, o diretor e roteirista Tako X resolve apostar na comédia, mostrando os dois personagens sob uma ótica irônica e irreverente. O final é literalmente explosivo.
Na entrada do filme tem o primeiro curta em animação do Gralha, "A Disputa", que mostra um novo confronto entre o Gralha e o Craniano.

The participants short biography: 

Tako X (director) 
The cartoonist and illustrator Edson Takeuti, born in Curitiba, in 1965, is collaborator of several publications, among them the brazilian magazine MAD, as caricaturist and cover artist. He lived five years in Japan, in Tokyo, where he worked as commercial illustrator. Now he runs an illustration studio in Nagoya, Japan. It is one of the creators oh the Gralha. His connection with the movies began when it participated in a course accomplished at University of Arts of Paraná, with Tizuka Yamasaki's coordination. He created the initial history of the short-film "Deu na Cabeça", work of graduation of the referred course. "The Egg or the Hen" of 2002 is his first film as director. In 2004 he writes and direct the short-film "The Gralha and Oil Man - An Explosive Encounter." 

Eduardo Moreira (actor) 
Cartoonist, illustrator and caricaturist, he is part of the creative team of the of the Gralha. Now he runs an illustration and animation studio in Curitiba. The role of the Gralha in "The Egg or the Chicken" was his first work as actor. 

Fabiana M. Moro van Abbema (direction assistant and production) 
Graduated in Publicity by PUCPR, since 2002. 
Co-direction and co-production of academical short-film "Reset", video rewarded nationally in the experimental category in the academical contest Festnet, July of 2001, and 2nd place nationally in the experimental category of the contest Vide Vídeo UFRJ, November of 2001.  Winner photo in the 3rd place in the category free from the IV Contest of photos of the Academic Center of Social Communication PUCPR, October of 2002.  Existence of some months in community life: Blue mountain - Mato Grosso (July of 2001), Amazonian Forest - RO (July of 2002) and Plated of Diamantina - NANNY (March of 2003). 

Photon Filmes  
That group appeared starting from a course of Academical Extension accomplished at University of Arts of Paraná in 2001, with duration of one year, and the consecrated Brazilian director's Tizuka Yamasaki coordination. They are more than twenty people that participated in that course and they specialized in the several areas to the movies: screenplay, production, directing, filming and edition of a film. The work of graduation of that group was the short-film entitled "Deu na Cabeça."

Tako X (diretor)
O cartunista e ilustrador Edson Takeuti, nascido em Curitiba, em 1965, é colaborador de várias publicações, entre elas da revista MAD, como caricaturista e capista. Morou cinco anos no Japão, em Tóquio, onde trabalhou como ilustrador comercial. Atualmente dirige um estúdio de ilustração em Curitiba e faz parte do Clube dos Caricaturistas. É um dos criadores do personagem Gralha. Sua ligação com o cinema começou quando participou do curso de Extensão Universitária realizado na Faculdade de Artes do Paraná, com a coordenação de Tizuka Yamasaki. Criou o roteiro inicial do curta "Deu na Cabeça", trabalho de formatura do referido curso. "O Ovo e a Galinha" de 2002 é o seu primeiro filme como diretor. Em 2004 dirige e roteiriza os curtas "Apego" e "O Gralha e Oil Man - Um Encontro Explosivo".

Eduardo Moreira (ator)
Cartunista, ilustrador e caricaturista, faz parte da equipe criativa das aventuras em quadrinhos do Gralha e do Clube dos Caricaturistas. Atualmente dirige um estúdio de ilustração e animação em Curitiba, responsável pelos desenhos animados do Gralha. O papel de Gralha em "O Ovo ou a Galinha" foi seu primeiro trabalho como ator.

Formada em Publicidade e Propaganda pela PUCPR, desde 2002.
Co-direção e co-produção do curta-universitário "Reset", vídeo premiado nacionalmente na categoria experimental no concurso universitário Festnet, julho de 2001, e 2º lugar nacionalmente na categoria experimental do concurso Vide Vídeo UFRJ, novembro de 2001.
Foto vencedora do 3º lugar na categoria livre do IV Concurso de fotos do Centro Acadêmico de Comunicação Social PUCPR, outubro de 2002.

Cooperativa Photon Filmes
Esse grupo surgiu a partir de um curso de Extensão Universitária realizada na Faculdade de Artes do Paraná em 2001, com duração de um ano, e a coordenação da consagrada diretora brasileira Tizuka Yamasaki. São mais de vinte pessoas que participaram daquele curso e especializaram-se nas diversas áreas ligadas ao cinema: roteiro, produção, direção, filmagem e edição de um filme. O trabalho de formatura desse grupo foi a realização de um curta metragem intitulado "Deu na Cabeça".

Custos de produção:
o filme possui dois custos:
- o justo (em torno de 50 mil reais) - se todas as pessoas envolvidas tivessem sido remuneradas, assim como os equipamentos particulares e locações tivessem sido pagos.
- o real (de R$ 300,00) - o mínimo básico de materiais sem as quais não seria possível nem mesmo gravar o filme, como as fitas, combustível, alimentação, figurino, maquiagem e alguns objetos de cena.

The history of the Gralha (the character):
 

Created in 1997, for eight brazilian cartoonists, the Gralha a youth student that discovers that his destiny is to struggle against the evil. In the first film he chases his nemesis, the Cranial. His first appearance happened in the magazine Heavy Metal (HQMix Award of Best Mix Magazine of 1997), then he was published by the Gazette of the People Journal (from 1998 to 1999) and now it is edited by the Via Lettera of SP (HQMix Award of Best Fiction Album of  2001). 

The Gralha counts with some superpowers to supplant his fragile physical appearance: the supersonic scream, the super force and the flight power.  
 

Um Histórico ou resumo da história do Gralha (personagem):

Criado em 1997, por oito cartunistas curitibanos, o Gralha é um jovem estudante que descobre que seu destino é lutar contra o mal, encarnado no primeiro filme pelo seu arqui-inimigo, o Craniano. Sua primeira aparição aconteceu na revista Metal Pesado (prêmio HQMIx de Melhor Revista Mix de 1997), em seguida passou a ser publicado semanalmente pela Gazeta do Povo (de 1998 a 1999) e atualmente é editado pela Via Lettera de SP (prêmio HQMix de Melhor Álbum de Ficção de 2001).
Mesmo nunca tendo se preparado para lutar contra o mal, o jovem Gustavo Gomes, o alter-ego do herói, conta com alguns superpoderes para suplantar a sua frágil aparência física: o grito supersônico, a super força e o poder de vôo.

Video - The new short film of the Gralha 
This film has the special and explosive participation of Oil-Man 

Eduardo Moreira dresses the uniform of the super-hero in one more short film.  

The brazilian bigger super-hero is returning to the screens this year in a new short film: “An Explosive Encounter”. This time he will meet another picturesque character of Curitiba City: Oil-Man. Directed by Tako X, the video should be in the next  8.º Festival of Movies, Video and DCine of Curitiba, that happens next month. 

The Gralha was it created six years ago for a youth group of cartoonists of Curitiba, among them Tako and Edu Jr. Moreira, that interprets the hero in the films. After a passage for the pages of the Gazette of the People - from 98 to 99 -, the character arrived to the screens in the entertaining short-film The Egg or the Hen (last year), in wich he faced his main enemy, the Cranial (lived by Tarciso Jr.). 

The short-film won the public's award as the Best Movie of the 2003 Festival of Curitiba, having participated in Santa Maria's festivals and Florianópolis, and being presented in several states of the country in academic and comic festival, always with good public praise. 

Good-humored, as its predecessor, An Explosive Encounter it is a work divided in three parts. Opening the video, there is an animation of a confrontation between the hero and the Cranial villain, produced by Moreira and with the screenplay by Tako X. In the sequence, comes the collision between the Gralha and Oil-Man. 

Tako X reminds that the idea of the encounter of the hero with the biologist's Nelson Rebello traditional persona (that anoints the body with oil and rides the bicycle for the streets of the city) happened after the success of his small participation in The Egg or the Hen (in a fast scene with the Cranial). "When we exhibited the film here in the city or even in other places, the part that the more people laughed was when Oil-Man appeared", he reveals.  

Tako X wrote it, but without consulting Rebello about his possible appearence. Initially, he didn't want to participate in the fiom, but accepted to liberate the character's name to be interpreted by another actor. But he liked the history and he was convinced to act for the companions of his musical group (Oil Band), and they end up playing a music in the film. "He agreed to participate some days before the first shooting day. We got afraid, because he was late in the day in that we recorded the video. But he came and he was a very nice person", reminds the director. 

Concluding the short film, there is a trailer of a movie that the creators would like to accomplish in a close future - closing the scenes, they put the phrase "Soon in the teathers, if somebody is interested in sponsoring it". "We don't want to do films in the molds of the ones that were done already, totally without resources, depending on the friends' help, even if they make that for friendship. The intention is to do a long lenght-movie one as it is in the trailer, be through sponsors or cultural incentive laws ", Moreira comments. 

The director reminds that nobody dared to do films on super-heroes in Brazil before the Gralha. “We went there and we did it to see how it was to do a super-hero movie in Brazil. And the people are responding to the work in a fantastic way", he says. "The character ended to be the main character of the city, the people here identifies with the films. The Gralha is close of our reality", completes Moreira. 

Tako X also informs that the Gralha will arrive to the stages this year, in a teatrical production by Edson Bueno.

Filme tem a participação especial e explosiva do Oil-Man

Eduardo Moreira veste o uniforme do super-herói curitibano em mais um curta-metragem.

O primeiro super-herói genuinamente curitibano está retornando às telas este ano em um novo curta-metragem. Já está finalizado Um Encontro Explosivo, a segunda aventura do Gralha no cinema, dessa vez batendo de frente com outro personagem pitoresco da capital paranaense: o Oil-Man. Dirigido e roteirizado por Tako X, o vídeo deverá ser lançado no 8.º Festival de Cinema, Vídeo e DCine de Curitiba, que acontece no próximo mês.

O Gralha foi criado há seis anos por um jovem grupo de cartunistas de Curitiba, entre eles Tako e Edu Jr. Moreira, que interpreta o herói nos filmes. Depois de uma passagem pelas páginas da Gazeta do Povo - com tiras publicadas no caderno FUN, de 98 a 99 -, o personagem chegou às telas no divertido curta O Ovo ou a Galinha (lançado no ano passado), em que enfrentava seu principal inimigo, o Craniano (vivido por Tarciso Jr.).

A fita levou o prêmio do público na categoria vídeo da edição 2003 do Festival de Curitiba, além de ter participado dos festivais de Santa Maria e Florianópolis, e de ser apresentado em vários estados do país em mostras universitárias e de quadrinhos, sempre com boa resposta de público.

Segundo Moreira, a produção será lançada brevemente em um DVD que terá muito material extra: making of; todas as faixas da trilha sonora original, com informações sobre as bandas; 20 histórias em quadrinhos do Gralha; todos os quadrinhos do personagem Marco, criado por Tako X e publicado por alguns anos na Gazetinha; e o curta Deu na Cabeça, que mostrou como o Gralha apareceu pela primeira vez no cinema. "Ficamos quase um ano e meio produzindo esse material", informa o cartunista e ator.

Bem-humorado, como seu antecessor, Um Encontro Explosivo é um trabalho dividido em três partes. Abrindo o vídeo, há uma animação de um confronto entre o herói e o vilão Craniano, realizada por Moreira. Na seqüência, vem o embate entre o Gralha e o Oil-Man.

Tako lembra que a idéia do encontro do herói com a hoje tradicional persona do biólogo Nelson Rebello (que besunta o corpo com óleo e sai andando de bicicleta pelas ruas da capital) aconteceu depois do sucesso de sua pequena participação em O Ovo e a Galinha (numa cena rápida com o Craniano). "Quando a gente exibia o filme aqui na cidade ou mesmo em outros lugares, a parte que as pessoas mais riam era quando o Oil-Man aparecia", revela.

Tako escreveu o roteiro, mas sem consultar Rebello sobre sua possível atuação. Inicialmente, ele não quis participar da fita, apenas aceitou liberar o nome do personagem para ser interpretado por um ator. Mas gostou do roteiro e foi convencido a atuar pelos companheiros de seu grupo musical (Oil Band), que acabam tocando uma música no filme. "Ele topou alguns dias antes da filmagem. Ficamos com medo, porque ele se atrasou no dia em que gravamos o vídeo. Mas ele veio e foi muito simpático e solícito", lembra o diretor.

Finalizando o curta, há um trailer de um longa do paladino curitibano, que os criadores gostariam de realizar num futuro próximo - fechando as cenas, eles colocam a frase "Breve nos cinemas, se alguém se interessar em patrocinar". "Nós não queremos fazer filmes nos moldes dos que já foram feitos, totalmente sem recursos, dependendo da ajuda de amigos, mesmo que eles façam isso no maior companheirismo. A intenção é fazer um longa como está no trailer, seja através de patrocinadores ou lei de incentivo", comenta Moreira.

"O Ovo e a Galinha", feito em betacam, custou R$ 2 mil. Para realizar Um Encontro Explosivo em vídeo digital foi gasto um valor ainda menor - mas se todos os que participaram fossem pagos realmente, o custo de cada fita ficaria na casa dos R$ 50 mil. "Gostaria de deixar claro que não recomendo que os filmes sejam feitos dessa forma. Estamos fazendo assim, porque as pessoas participam de muita boa vontade, pois entraram em sintonia com a nossa proposta, contribuindo para o Gralha se torne uma coisa interessante", comenta Tako, que confirma que já existe um projeto de longa montado pela Cooperativa Photom Filmes (que produziu os curtas), que deve ser inscrito nas leis Rouanet e Municipal de Incentivo à Cultural de Curitiba.

O diretor lembra que ninguém tinha se arriscado a fazer filmes sobre super-heróis no Brasil antes do Gralha. "Fomos lá e fizemos para ver como ficava. E as pessoas estão respondendo ao trabalho de maneira fantástica", avalia. "O personagem acabou se tornando um representante da cidade, o curitibano se identifica com os filmes. O Gralha está próximo da nossa realidade", completa Moreira.

Tako informa também que o Gralha pode chegar aos palcos curitibanos ainda este ano, numa peça produzida por Edson Bueno. "Ele tem um argumento da história, mas ainda não está nada definido. Estou cobrando dele até, ligo sempre perguntando", conta.
